10/25 Morning Update

I’m feeling a bit better this morning. Last night was tough for a while. I’ve been having trouble sleeping. When I lay down to sleep, I experience some pretty severe back pain. It was pretty bad last night. The pain medication I have doesn’t seem to knock it down very well.

I finally started experimenting with different sleeping configurations. I found that if I used pillows to build a slight ramp for the top part of my body, I had a position that didn’t hurt quite so bad. In fact, once I had found this position, I slept pretty well. Mind you, I was rather constrained to one position, but if I can sleep well there, that’s OK.

Nora and I have a few 'wedge' pillows that come in very handy. They're basically made out of foam rubber and rise to about 6-8" off the mattress. We then put a pillow on top of that.

We've found that it is very helpful if we have a cold or are congested.

If fact, I've been using one for two months now, even though I'm no longer congested.

I think you can pick them up at Walmart or some place like that.

Know how much the Mackienze helps your Dad with his back. Glad you found some way to help. Sorry to hear of the diagnosis Yesterday. Have you faxed all the reports to Sloan-Kettering as yet? Keep the faith. Lots of people have fought this thing & won. Have faith that you will also.
Love always,
Mom & Dad
