Shopping

I went shopping with the Vorlon Wife today. I felt like I had been let out of jail. I’m still feeling pretty well.

I know this is not particularly enlightening but I had a small epiphany while shopping with the Vorlon Wife.

Shopping for men is a mission. They are on a mission to find and retrieve merchandise for their needs. While they may observe other items as they look for the items on their list, they concentrate their energies on accomplishing the mission. They are also trying to minimize their time during the mission.

Shopping for women is a sightseeing tour. While they too are looking for items on their list, it is of equal importance to see what other items might prove just as, if not more, interesting than the original objective. For them, time of the whole tour is not particularly important.

Ted, you sound just like your father. They say women go shopping & men just go buy it acording to a comdeian on the Bill Gaither show. Know how refreshing it is to get out side even if it is just to go shopping with you wife.

For me, shopping is more like downhill skiing. I move as quickly as I can and try to avoid wrong turns. The clock is running and I have memorized the track.

The location of each item is put in order on my list so that there is no back tracking. When I enter the store, I grab a cart and head to the back of the store. From the back of the store, I start working my way to the front, much like a pinball.

The cart is not only used to transport merchandise, it is also a shield for merging blindly from aisles. Even if I am only after one item, I use a cart. Safety first. Oh, I also count shopping as exercise.

Sounds like your momma told you, didn't she! Just like your father - that's about the best comment a son could ever receive!

Nora and I both HATE shopping. When we get to store, we generally break up the list. Nora will tell me to go get a few items and catch up with her. After I return and she has approved the items, she'll give me more things to get.

The other day we went to WalMart. She needed an outfit for yesterday. She went and got that, and I was instructed to get a DVD player and VHS head cleaner. We were out in less than 1/2 an hour, with no side runs down any aisle we didn't have to go in.

Of course, this does not apply to going into a computer store, book store, or Office Depot. I can spend quick a bit of time in there without a real purpose. However, since I can write off much of what I buy there as a business expense, I'm 'working'. Somehow I don't think that excuse will fly with your Mother.
