I had some upsetting news today. I called to make an appointment with my hairdresser and found he had passed away in March. He went into the hospital with pneumonia and they found he had lung cancer and it had gone into his bones. He was in a lot of pain and went down hill very quickly. He was 47 years old. His father was Japanese Hawaiian and his mother Japanese American from California. They were relocated here during WWII.

I have been going to him for 25 years. I will miss my friend.

I ran some errands this morning. I went to Boscov’s and bought myself a birthday present. I saw they had a Jade pendant on sale so I thought it would look nice with the Jade earrings Ted had given me many years ago.

After Boscov’s, I went to Home Depot to get a molding for the living room. The one it has over the opening to the kitchen, doesn’t go all the way to the ceiling. I got a quarter round and needed 9 + feet. I found a 10 foot piece and yes, it fit in my Honda. Great little cars. The seats go down and opens up the trunk. It went from the dashboard to the corner of the trunk.

After lunch, I went to the supermarket and got some things on my list. I got some fruit and has cantaloupe for dinner. I have strawberries and bananas for my cereal.

I brought Ted’s water timers up from the basement. I put in the batteries and set the date and time. Tomorrow, I’ll setup the watering schedule for the odd/even cycle. I read the instructions earlier tonight.

After dinner, I went to a meeting at the church. They invited the area minister and the pastor from the NJABC to talk about the American Baptist Church Association. Some members were concerned about the Associations stand on different issues that are facing churches today. Main concerns were gay marriage and abortion. The meeting ran late as usual.

I walked Danny when I got home and put the drops in his ears. I made some Chamomile Tea and Danny is growling to go to bed.

Happy Birthday Karol,

I bet the pendant looks very beautiful with the earrings. It's good that you went to Boscovs to get a birthday present for yourself, I'm sure it was hard to get something (and celebrate).

I have been reading your posts - keep up the good work! You are doing a good job. Danny Boy's adventures are fun to read. Also sounds like you are on your way to getting your garden back to Spring. Must be very nice to watch the flowers bloom. We have water restrictions here, so the yard is turning brown. I'll just have to enjoy your photos.

Take care.

Happy Birthday Karol.. and how wonderful that you celebrated your very special day. Finding the beautiful pendant to match the earrings that Ted Bought you is no coincidence. I really believe that you were led to do this. Your pictures are beautiful of your lawn, and flowers. Thank you for sharing. I know selling the car was not an easy task for you... letting go is very hard, but you should feel proud of yourself making so much progress. I admire your strength. I hope sweet Danny boy feels better soon with his ears. You are such great company for each other. Take good care and again.. Happy Birthday.. enjoy your gift.. it's special! Gloria

Hey girl, I didn't know it was your birthday. You as old as me yet? I love Boscovs. They always have such nice things at reasonable prices. Glad you found something you like.

Church meetings always seem to run long. If yours is like ours, we get off topic a lot.

Take care and see you tomorrow. Looks like the weather will be good to us.

Dear Karol,

I'm wishing you a very Happy Birthday. What a grand idea to buy yourself a special gift. I'm sure the pendant looks beautiful with the earrings Ted gave you. I'm just so happy you did that for yourself. It is wonderful that you rewarded yourself for taking care of SO many things on your own. You are one fine lady that we all need to take lessons from. I know Ted would be unbelieveably proud of you Karol.

I bet that was shocking to learn of your hairdresser's early death. After going to him for 25 years, it will be a project to find someone who knows your hair and will listen to what you want to have done. All hairdresser's are not created equally. We need to have someone that we're comfortable with that will listen and respond to our needs. You'll find one, but, hearing about his death was very upsetting I'm sure.

Have a beautiful day Karol and may this year be a good one for you dear lady. Sincerely, Ruth
