Friday Flowerblogging

Blue Hydrangea. We have acidic soil in Vineland. The color of the hydrangea depends on the ph. if the soil is on the basic side, the hydrangea would be pink. This hydrangea got a slow start as it is shaded by a large rhodadendron and maple tree. The one on the other side of the house is not yet blooming as it is in deeper shade by the red bud tree. It was a better bloomer before the red bud covered it.

I had no idea that the soil determined the color. Thanks for that tidbit. You haven't heard from me for a while. We are RVing in NH last week then all you know what broke loose here when I got back to work. Just now catching my breath.

Have a great Avalon weekend. Wear sunscreen!

They have developed hydrangeas that hold there color and do not depend on the ph.

Hi Karol, As your friend Phyllis commented, she had no idea that the ph in soil determined the color of the hydrangea - I have never heard anyone comment on that. I only hope that question comes up in conversation sometime, so I can whip out my vast knowledge about ph and soil. That's neat to know. And, the color of your hydrangea is so gorgeous. I don't think I've ever seen one so pretty. You're an artist in a way Karol.

You've probably left by now so I sure hope you have a grand get away this weekend. I'll be anxious to hear about your trip and to know how Danny Boy did too.

We've been without a telephone or a computer for about three days. We foolishly decided to change our phone carrier and found out that was a mistake. Such a mess we encountered. Anyway, thanks to my husband's never-ending stick-to-it-tive-ness, we're back in business. We just looked at each other a few times and said "remember when all you had to do was call Ma Bell and changes were made? - AND, you could talk to a real live person too. Why is it that progression looks so much like regression at times?? I know I'm sounding like an old outdated person, but, it really is difficult to make changes on things involving technology. Oh well, we learned that we'll never ever change phone carrier's again. We just had to learn that the hard way. It does make for a good story to tell others because now that we're through it, it does sound pretty funny about all we encountered.

Again, wishing you a grand weekend. Ruth

As I mentioned in my earlier comment, we've been without our computer and so I didn't see Danny's picture before. Oh my gosh, he is just so adorable. Those ears are unreal. What a precious baby. I'm so glad he has you and you have him.

And, reading your message about how nasty people can be on the phone sometimes brings back a few memories of my working days too. I wonder if the person would be that nasty if they were standing and talking to you - or if they feel safer somehow doing it without you being able to actually watch them act such a fool? It helped to know that others have encountered the "wicked witch of the east" as well. From now on, when you hear her voice, try to be prepared with some great line to try and shut her down before she does her drama queen act. Although, admittedly, that type of person isn't easily intimidated in the least and somehow feels very entitled to treat people in such a horrible way. If you're lucky, she will never call again. That's the best scenario I could come up with. Don't ever let her ruin your day though. It gives her way too much power. I know that's much easier said than done Karol. There are just little uglies running around loose in nearly every community just waiting to try and ruin someone's day.

We surely need more rain. It rained just a little a couple of days ago, but not enough to really help much. And, the weather report doesn't offer much hope either. The temps are going to be really high next week - in the 90's. It always makes me chuckle because we complain for months on end about the cold and ice in the winter, so, we get this warmth now, and sure enough we're still complaining. Mother Nature is probably just shaking her head.

Have a great time on your little get away Karol. Ruth
