Sunday, January 31, 2010

I was walking Danny this morning. He had a difficult time because he would walk in the slush and then the dry snow and it would freeze up on his paws. I brushed him off a couple times. He did his business quickly and I picked him up to carry him home. My friends and neighbors the Champions pulled out of their driveway and I waved them down. I asked if their church were open. I assumed that is where they were going. It was so I said, "My church is closed so I'll come to yours."

The service was at 9am so I had to hurry and get ready. It was at the Episcopal Church. It was a nice service and they had coffee and snacks afterward. Someone really provided a nice spread. I chose the cinnamon bun with the icing on top. It was cut in half so it was just the right size.

When I came home, I had more shoveling to do. Another two inches fell overnight. I called my brother Don whose lives outside of Philadelphia and they just got a trace over there. He didn't have to do any shoveling. When I talked to my niece in MD, she said they got 4 or 5 inches. It was cold so there was no melting going on. It was cold here but the sun melted the roads which had been plowed and salted and the driveways and sidewalks that had been shoveled.

I didn't do anything else today. I was tired out from shoveling and walking Danny.

I talked to Ted's parents and they told me it was cold out there in MI. It was 3 degrees this morning. I don't recall if it was plus or minus.

The company my nephew used to work for may be bought by a former owner. The man had sold it to the current owner who closed it down. They are negotiation the deal so if it goes through all right, my nephew will most likely get his job back. I pray it goes well.

Saturday, January 30, 2010

I tired up my Irish Junipers and did some shredding of documents this morning. It was cold again and was supposed to start snowing at noon. It wasn't snowing yet. I put on my hat, coat, scarf, and gloves and put on Danny's coat. We went out the door and the snow had begun. There was a quarter of an inch on the ground in that short period. I took him down the block and turned him around. It was still bitter cold and my hands were cold. Danny doesn't mind the cold. He wanted to keep going around the block. I had to tug him to get him to turn around.

I folded the laundry and sorted my socks while I watch the rest of the movies. I went out and shoveled what look like three inches of snow. By the time I got done both driveways, it looked like six inches. I took Danny out for another short walk before dinner. We got another two inches in the driveway that I shoveled and it's still coming down. At least the snowplow has been around. The last storm, seven of the city's trucks broke down. I got a call from one of the ladies of the church. She let me know that church has been canceled for tomorrow. I'll have to look up what time the Catholic Church is. They never close. The priests live right there so they have mass regardless of the weather. It is only three blocks away so I can walk if the roads are bad.

I watched my other movie tonight. It was called The Ranger, The Cook, and the Hole in the Sky. It was good.

Now to get to my reading.

Friday Flowerblogging

bittersweet011810.jpg

I found this bittersweet while walking Danny in downtown Chesapeake City. The berries are numerous and quite orange as opposed to the red berries at the dock. I have a photo of them earlier in the month.

It was bitter cold today. I should have worn my storm coat. It is down filled and is full length. I wore it when I took Danny out tonight but the wind had died down and it didn't seem as cold.

I did some computer business this morning. It seems to eat away the time. I had 175 email messages waiting for me when I got home yesterday. I deleted most of them today as they were junk.

I picked up the branches that had fallen out of the tree. I see piles of branches all over town. I put them out on the curb and the city comes to pick them up. They are scheduled for Feb. 8th.

I went to the Vet to get the flea medication for Danny. He will need it the first of the month. I stopped in the library to get a couple movies. I got one called the Buccaneers. It is a BBC production. Actually, it is in six parts. I watched three tonight. It's supposed to snow tomorrow so I can watch the other three then.

I made a pork and sauer kraut casserole today. It is a good hot meal to eat on a cold day. I baked it and put apples in it. I have enough for a couple more meals.

Vineland

I packed up the car and left CC at 11:15. I stopped at McDonald's in Woodstown for lunch. Danny and I had a berger and fries. I stopped at the bank and we arrived here around 1 pm.

I noticed the cover was off the grill and a large branch had come down in the yard. There must have been a storm with strong winds.

I unloaded the car and put some things away. I was expecting Rich from Toastmasters to come at 2 pm. I was the treasurer for the Toastmasters but haven't been able to attend much since Ted's illness and death. Now that I driving back and forth to CC, it is difficult to drive to Ocean City, especially by myself at night. I had asked them to find a new treasurer and Mary Fran accepted the position. She will do a fine job. Rich came to get the records and went with me to close out the account. My bank doesn't have a branch in Atlantic City where Mary Fran lives.

When I took Danny for his walk, I saw where the storm damaged my Irish Junipers. The wind and rain knocked down the branches. Just what I need is more work. The heavy snow didn't do any damage to them and don't know why the rain storm did. The wind must have whipped the branches open and the rain weighed them down. I should have tied them up for the winter.

I found some weather strip in the shed and put it on the front door. It didn't help my problem. It didn't hurt but it didn't help. I have to get some that I saw in the local hardware store and remove all the other weather strip that is on there.

I took my movies back to the library and took Danny in town to walk him. I took my binos and there were no birds today except for some gulls. I guess it was too cold and windy. I looked up the birds I saw last week with the white wing tips. They were Black Vultures. A friend at the Vineland Nature Club suggested that was what they might be. This is probably the northern most range for them. I didn't realize it was a vulture because the Turkey Vulture has a V shape wing span when it soars. The Black Vulture soars with a flat wing span like a hawk. I also saw a female hairy or downy woodpecker, chickadees, white throated sparrows, and juncos, aka snowbirds.

I brought up a movie online. I forget the name, The Cathouse and ... with Lee Marvin and Robert Culp. It was funny. I

It's time to take Danny out and do my reading.

Tuesday, Janurary 26, 2010

I went to exercise class this morning. It was a good workout. I saw ducks on the water at the marina. I didn’t have my binos so I couldn’t tell what kind of ducks they were.

I planted my hyacinths and some daffodils then took Danny for his noontime walk. After lunch, I went to the Dollar Express and the Supermarket. I got some groceries and some stuff to melt the ice if we get another storm on Friday. The stuff is called Paws. It claims to be safe for pets and children. I get tired of washing Danny’s feet every time I take him out. The other stuff is toxic to dog’s paws. I also replenished my supply of ice cream. The store carried the Zanie bones that Danny likes. The name has been change to Spot. It is a plush stuffed toy bone. The problem is he only likes the purple one and they had every color but. I’ll have to keep an eye out to see if they get purple in. I wish I had known at Christmas because that’s when the stores stock up on them. They may not reorder until next Christmas.

One of the movies I got at the library, I had seen before. I forgot to cross it off my list and didn’t remember that I had seen it. I watched the third Danielle Steel movie. It was rather intense and full of horrible language and violence. I don’t know anything about her books but I am wondering if I want to read them. I guess I can always close the book if I don’t like it.

I’m ready to get back to my James A. Mitchner book.

Monday, January 25, 2010

It rained hard all night and well into the morning. Danny wanted nothing to do with going out. The ground was saturated before the rain. Now, there is water lying in several spots on the lawn. The drainage ditch is gushing down the chute from the road.

It stopped around noon and I was able to get Danny out to do his business. I went through my bills and after lunch, I went to the library, post office and bank. I was going to go to the super market but a big black cloud rolled in and it started to rain again. I came home and put on a movie. The Wilmington radio station said that power was out in parts of Delaware. I hoped it wouldn’t go out here because the pump to the well will go out and then there is no water. We lucked out and had no problems with the power.

I watched the second Narnia movie, Prince Caspian. It was good but Danny barked at the animals. He must think they have come into our house and therefore invaded his territory.

I talked to my friend, Phyllis. She is doing well and will be starting her journey this Sunday. She and Len have retired and have a mobile home. They will be touring the country. I wish them well and pray for travel mercies for them.

I watched a second Danielle Steel movie tonight. It was good but horrible at the same time.
A tear jerker. The one I saw last night was excellent.

It’s way past time to take Danny out. I will do that now and then get to my reading.

Sunday, January 24, 2010

I woke up at five am and my sinuses were bothering me so I went back to bed. I woke again around 7. There's no way I could get ready in time to get to Maryland in time for church there. I decided to go to church here and leave afterward. I had some things packed in the car yesterday and some things by the door ready to go in. I put them in and looked around to put some more things in and fill up the car. The only thing I had to pack was the cold food. I did that after church.

The service was long. It was 12:45 by the time I got out of there. I went home, took Danny for his walk, packed the cooler, and got the house ready for me to leave. We made good time coming down. I stopped in Woodstown for gas as it is cheaper there. I paid $2.51 today.

I got here at 3:30. I unpacked the car and put the bags and boxes in the appropriate rooms. I put some things in the shed. I called my niece. Ed answered and said they would pick me up around 5:30 to go to the Hibachi Grill. They go there on Sundays and include me when I'm here. I talked to Ted's mother for awhile before Cheryl and Ed came for me. Tonight I had mostly vegetable dishes with some shrimp and chicken teriyaki. I have some fruit, ice cream and egg custard for desert.

I bought some videos when I was at the Acme. They were a three pack of Danielle Steels novels. I haven't read any of her books but the people who used to live in the trailer left a whole box of them. I'll give them a try. I hope I like the videos. They were cheap so I figured "Why not."

I am ready to get started on them. I'll probably have to pause in the middle to take Danny out for the night. Then I will get back to my book Centennial.

We slept in until 7 this morning. I did some bills and looked up some things on the computer. I dug up my hyacinths and some daffodils. I shredded a few things but have a lot more to shred. I packed some things from the storage room in the basement. I loaded them in the car. I have the suit cases packed and the dry food that I’m taking. I plan on leaving early in the morning so I can go to church in CC.

When I walked Danny this evening, I saw some snowdrops blooming in my neighbor’s yard. They are early bloomers and this neighbor's seem to bloom before others.

I have some reading to catch up on.

Look at all the buds on this primrose. Last year, it started blooming in March. Sometimes it starts in Feburary. It seem to start right after a snow storm. I guess that's why it started now. It was warm in December up until the middle of the month so I guess it had a lot of growth before the storm. It warmed up this week and the primrose burst into bloom.

LOOK WHAT'S BLOOMING! What a surprise when I was walking Danny to see the primrose blooming in January. It is an early bloomer but I think this is the earliest I've seen it. It is in the west side garden in my Vineland home. I thought I had dug it up to take to MD but I'll have to do it now.

Thursday, January 21, 2010

I spent a couple hours on the phone with Social Security this morning. It paid off in the end. I will be getting Ted’s Social Security starting in March. It will be nearly twice as much as mine.

When I was walking Danny this morning, I saw trash strewn all over the neighborhood. I was horrified to find it was mine. I put it out last week. I thing the brats down the street got into it and threw it around. It was Styrofoam broken up and laying around all up and down the street. I discovered it was mine when I found a book torn up and recognized it as one I threw out. It had Ted’s name inside the cover. I thought someone had taken the books; someone who could use them. Sometimes people take things from the curb and sell them at the flea market. I don’t mind if someone can use them but to have them torn up and tossed around burns me up.

I took Danny for his noontime walk, had some lunch and rested for a while. I got ready and went to Bible Study. They hadn’t met since mid Dec. First, there were the holidays and last week, the Browns who host the Bible Study had a death in the family so it was canceled.

I went to the Acme and got some food for me and Danny. I got food for here and to take to CC. I needed food in both places. Acme had a sale on pork for $.99. It has country spareribs, pork chops and a roast. I’ll separate it into one serving sizes, bag it up and freeze it.

There was a Star Trek movie on the Sci-Fi channel but it will be running too late. I need to catch up on some reading.

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

We had a long day. We got up early and Danny went for his walk. I packed everything up and went through my routine of closing up the house. I went to my Aunt Jean’s because she had forgotten to bring my Christmas present when she came for dinner in December. She wanted me to have it to keep me warm in the cold weather. I figured it was 45 minutes to her house and another fifty minutes from her house to Vineland. So the trip was about the same as if I drove for CC to Vineland.

I went a couple miles down the road and Danny was shivering again. I didn’t have his coat on because it was 40 degrees but the car had been in the shade and I think the seat is cold. He lays on it and it must drop his body temp down. I pulled over, put his coat on, and turned up the heat on high. He warmed up in a few minutes.

I had lunch with Aunt Jean and then went to my brothers. I had to drop off Sylvia’s casserole dish and her food carrier. Cheryl sent a jacket up for my nephew, Bob and my cousin Bob sent a book for my brother, Don.

We got here around 5 o’clock. I unpacked the car, walked Danny and got some dinner. I watch the TV and learned about Scott Brown’s winning the seat held by Ted Kennedy. I think most of the country was cheering for Brown.

I called my brother, Don to make sure he got Bob’s book and a DVR he had lent me. Bob sent me a book, too. It is about the Orrell’s who have served on the water. My Dad and Don both served in the Navy and so did my cousin, Rene. My great grandfather served in the Navy during the Civil War. I only skimmed through the ones that I knew of and will go back and read about the others. I left my book in CC so will read that when I go back.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

I went to the exercise class this morning. I was stiff and sore around my upper back and neck. I must have laid in a funny way on the air mattress and pillows propping me up to watch TV on my laptop. Anyway, the exercise felt good and the ladies were glad to see me.

I went over to the bank and straightened out the problem there. I opened a checking account and they talked me into opening a savings account. They said I could open it with $25.00. They didn’t tell me I need a minimum of $100.00 or else there is a $3.00 fee. At $3.00 a month, the money would be gone in 8 months. Had I know, I would have put the hundred in in the first place. Good Grief. It seems people are out to grab your money anyway the can.

I unpacked a plastic storage tub and pack it with more Christmas lights and put it out in the shed. There were a lot of photos in the tub. I don’t know where I’m going to put them. I don’t have my fireplace mantel here but I will have four additional book shelves. Actually, I’ll have five. I’ll have the one Ted made that is presently in the kitchen in Vineland. It is a real nice bookshelf. I think I’ll put it in the master bedroom.

I’m thinking about what I’m going to have for dinner. I forgot the can opener so I can only open cans that have pull tabs. I have a bag of frozen corn but I don’t feel like having that. I have some frozen ravioli but I don’t feel like having that either. I’m not very hungry. I may have some soup and a roll.

I walked Danny around the mobile home park today. He likes to walk out in the field and sniff around at where birds and animals had been. The tall grass is pretty well knocked down now so he is able to walk through it.

I saw a couple birds the size of a crow but had white wing tips. I thought it was strange when I saw the first one and then, a second one flew by. Sometimes crows and other black birds have some white feathers but these were identical. I’ll have to look them up.

Monday, July 18, 2010

I got a few things done today. I unpacked one of my plastic storage containers and packed the Christmas lights in it and took it to the shed. I had some little trees and plants in a bag in the bathtub for about a month. I had dug them up in Vineland and it was raining and then the ground froze and then it snowed. I also had some bulb that I put in the refrigerator. I planted them all today. The ground was wet and easy to dig. I planted them all out back along the drainage ditch at the edge of my lawn.

Danny and I took a walk around the town today. We walked along the dock and along the streets. A couple ducks swam close to us. A got a photo of the coot. The other was a female mallard. I couldn’t get her photo as she swam under the dock and out of range.

I watched a Sherlock Holmes movie on Fancast. It was an old one with Basil Rathbone.

Sunday, January 17, 2010

It was a dark and rainy day. I woke at 5:30, took my medicine and went back to bed. I only slept a half hour when I woke again. It was still dark outside. I turned on the light, made some coffee and got back in bed to read for awhile until the heat came up.

I took Danny out for his walk. I use his coat as a rain coat. If it’s over 40 degrees, I don’t put his coat on him unless it’s raining. He didn’t go far. He walked around the back yard. There is an extension on my shed. The door is falling apart. It looks like a home made door. There is what looks like poles to a portable gazebo in there with leaves covering the floor. I was going to take them to the dump but I haven’t got moved in yet so they may give me a hard time with NJ auto tags and drivers license. I can fix the door when I get my tools down here. In the meantime, a critter must have gotten in there because Danny barked and lunged for the door aggressively. This part of the shed does not open into the large part. It looks like a place where I can store rakes and other tools. I did bring down the leaf blower but the weather has not co-operated for me to get the job done. I had to pull Danny away because I have no idea what kind of critter may be in there. Could be a mouse or a mole then again could be a raccoon.

When driving to church, I saw the fire company rescue squad at the public boat ramp. I wondered what was going on. As I rounded the curve toward the marina, I saw the rescue workers had a sled type rescue thing out on the ice and they were being cautious. Someone or something must have fallen through the ice. I can’t imagine anyone being on the ice in the rain. It could have been a dog or deer. Then again, it could have been some drunk. Maybe Ed will know what happened.

Everyone welcomed me back to church. I stayed afterward for choir practice. We had some tricky hymns with alto, soprano, tenor and base singing different parts. Of course they were ones I had never heard of before and we had to sing with out accompaniment because we didn’t have a piano player or organist. It went pretty well in spite of not having the accompaniment.

I took Danny out in the yard again and he headed straight for the back of the shed. I steered him in another direction and back into the house. I was surprised he wanted to go out in the rain but I guess his curiosity of what was in the shed got the better of him. He did the same thing at 4pm and will probably do the same tonight.

I had some dinner and talked to Ted’s mother. I am about to find out what movie is online so I can watch from the laptop. I didn’t get any movies at the library yesterday. I got here too late. Fancast have movies online for free so I’m going to sit back and enjoy.

Chesapeake City.

I got up early and got thing packed and ready for the car. I went to the bank and stopped by the appliance dealer and got a filter for my frige. The people came to look at my house at one. I heard their real estate lady say, “You can make the seller paint the garage because you can have paint that’s peeling.” I thought, “cha ching”. It doesn’t seem fair that when we bought the house, there weren’t any rules like that. We had to scrape and paint the house ourselves. All the windows and trim were peeling and so were the sofits. We had to buy our own smoke alarms and CO2 alarms. We had to paint the entire house, upgrade the electric, and buy our own rugs, air conditioners, frige, and dishwasher. I heard her give away my living room rug and dishwasher. I have no idea what she may have given away upstairs. The living room rug is about 37 years old and the dishwasher leaks so I don’t care if they want them. It’s just the idea. I guess it’s the part I overheard her say about making me paint the garage that ticked me off. If I have to paint it, I ought to paint it pink or something gross.

We made good time getting down here. I unloaded the car and a neighbor pulled up in his pick up asking about the dryer. I told him it was already sold. I had a washer for sale. He said he could use a washer but he needed a dryer more.

I had dinner at my nephew, Rick’s. Michelle made spaghetti with meatballs and sausage. She also served salad and garlic bread. Her friend brought the desert of apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream. After dinner, we watch a movie. The have that On Demand service. I’m not sure how it works. I have always stuck with basic service. The movie was funny but had crude language. It was the Hangover... before the wedding.

Rick lives 20 minutes from me. I hope he can find a job in the area. I would hate if he had to move. Danny is ready for be and he is moaning for me to go, too. He thinks I have to go with him. Well, he just headed for the bedroom. I guess he gave up on me. I have my hot tea and will read for awhile.

Friday Flowerblogging

berriedockside.jpg

I'm not sure what these berries are. I thought they might be bittersweet but bittersweet are orange and these berries are red. The bushes are planted around the dock at the marina.

I went to the Chiropractor this morning and then I thought I'd run the car through the car wash. The line was too long so I backed out of the driveway and went to the Shop Rite. I need some light bulbs. It seems all my light bulbs burned out at the same time. I needed an outdoor flood light and the Acme only had indoor. I put a blue flood light in there temporarily. It looks pretty for the holidays but it is not very bright. The front porch light has two bulb in the fixture and both were out. I put a yellow bug light in one and an amber party light in the other. I light the effect of the amber. I makes it look like the glass fixture is amber. I also have a bulb out at the landing of the stairway. My 40 watt bulbs are in Maryland. I'll have to change the flood light tomorrow. I think I'll leave the amber in unless I decide to take them to Maryland. I have light fixtures at the front and back.

I packed up some more things and loaded up the car. I took the car to the garage. Tomorrow, I will unload some of it and take some to MD. I felt rather tired and didn't get much else done.

I didn't do much today. I packed up some Christmas decorations and put the containers in the car. I don't know if I will leave them there to take to MD or put them in the garage. I went to the Optometrist and got my glasses this morning and that was about it for the day. I seem to need a day of recovery after packing, driving and unpacking.

I went through my 87 emails and sent some out. I took Danny on a couple of long walks. It was a nice day. I posted my photos of the frozen canal.

I hope to get some reading in before going to sleep.

Please keep my sister-in-law, Kathy in your prayers as she fights her battle with cancer.

I woke up at 5:30, took my medicine and went back to bed. I slept later than usual and got up around 8:30. I took Danny out, ate, and blew the snow off the walkway. I showered and went to the library to drop off my DVD’s. I stopped at Ed’s to give him the instruction manual for the dryer. From there, I went down town and walked Danny around the marina and the town. The marina was still frozen over and the light dusting of snow covered the ice. The ice pieces were still floating down the canal. The current was going the other way toward the Chesapeake. It was not moving as fast as it was when it was flowing toward the Delaware Bay. Ed said he can here the ships breaking the ice as they go through. Maybe that’s the strange loud noises I hear but didn’t know what they were.

I read where not as much traffic is traveling through the canal in this icy weather. I guess only big ships are going through. The marina is practically empty and the little town is like a ghost town. Most stores are closed. The café was open and looked busy. The Hole-in-the-Wall bar looked deserted but it was still early. The Inn looked deserted, too.

Melissa, my real estate lady called. Someone wants to see my house tomorrow night. I plan to leave in the morning and get as much out of the storage room as possible. I have some paint here at the trailer that my nephew used to paint my laundry room. I can use it to paint the storage room if the people who look at the house are not interested in buying. If they make an offer, than I won’t bother. They can take it as is.

Monday, January 11, 2010

I took down the trees today. I usually take two days to take down the tree but I took down two in one day. I was exhausted. I still have to take the boxes out to the shed. I'll do that tomorrow. I bought a roast on Saturday. It was on sale. I brought it down here to cook it. I put it in the oven at 3:30 along with a sweet potatoe for dinner. The roast was not for dinner. I just wanted to get it cooked up for future meals. I'll have some tomorrow and freeze the rest in one meal servings.

I went to the libraray and got a couple movies. The James Bond movie was defective. I tried cleaning it and it ran for awhile but then went into that mozaic pattern again. I tried to forward past it but to no avail. I ejected it and put in the Yearling. After it started, I realized I had seen it before. My father used to work part time at a movie theatre that his friends owned. He filled in whereever they needed someone. He collected tickets and ushered. He took us everytime the movie changed which was twice a week back then. The Yearling was made in 1946. I would have been two. I saw a lot of old movies back then. I must have seen the Yearling more recently. Probably on TV.

I'm going to get some reading in. Last night, I fell asleep reading.

Sunday, January 10, 2010

I got up around 7 and took Danny out. We once again bundled up for the cold. Some of the sidewalks were icy because when we had a light dusting of snow, people didn't clear there walks and it froze. The south side of my house melted and I shoveled and sweep the north side. I did some cleaning in the cellar so I can be ready to paint the storage room when I get back to Vineland. I got ready for church and afterward, I had some of Beth's apple cake and cranberry bread for the fellowship following the service.

My friends asked me to go to lunch with them but I needed to get the car packed up and go to MD. There is always a lot to do. I have to water the plants. Load the car. Turn down the water heater and shut off the water. I also look around for what can fit into the car and fill up the nooks and crannies.

When I got here, I unloaded the car and walked Danny. When we got back, Danny barked in the front bathroom. I opened the door of the cabinet under the sink and saw a mouse in the trap. I shut the door and thought I'd ask Ed to dispose of it. He and my niece, Cheryl were coming to take me to dinner with them. I thought I'd better get used to disposing of mice so I put on my disposable rubber gloves, got a plastic bag and went to get the mouse. I saw it was not a mouse but a mole. I felt sorry for the little guy but I don't want critters running around my house. I shook him out of the trap into the bag and Ed was knocking at my door. I put on my coat, grabbed my purse and went out. I dropped the mole in the trash can and off we went to the Hibachi Grill. They have all you can eat for $9.99. They have all kinds of seafood, and sushi. They will cook your hibachi as you watch. They have Chinese food as well as American. It is good food and a good price.

When I got back, I took Danny out in the back yard. We came in and watched some Rockford Files online. Fancast has all kinds of old TV shows. It's good when you don't have cable or have no stations in your area.

I feel like this is a completely different world than Vineland.

Saturday, January 9, 2010

I crossed a few things off my list today. I took the tree down and painted some more of the cellar. I put some clothes in the washer and dryer and folder them up. I sorted the socks. I sewed my parka and threw it in the washer. The pockets were ripping out and a button needed to be sewn before it came off and got lost. It was another cold day. I have to bundle up with my long down coat, my new hat that has ear flaps and ties under the chin, my ski gloves and Sorrel boots. I also have to put Danny's coat on him. I'm exhausted before I get out the door.

I did a few other things but I can't recall right now.

Friday Flowerblogging

doorwreath.jpg

Ted took this photo of the wreath on our French doorto our sunporch. It is a real balsam fur. I do have artificial ones but this one was real. He had it as an we;come entry into the computer but it disappeared when I took it to the shop. I don't know how to get it back.

I had a busy day today. I awoke to more snow. We had about two inches fall overnight. The roads and walks melted quickly but there is still some on the grass and trees. I started taking down the tree but didn't remember where I had put the boxes to put the decorations away. I found them in the garage later. I called the power company and found they applied my check to my bill. I went to my online account but it hadn't posted yet. I had to get the driveway shoveled out before Melissa came. It is on the northside of the house and doesn't get any sun. I wanted to get it done before it froze up. I had a late lunch and then Melissa came and we went over the figures of other houses that sold in the area. Melissa rewrote the wording that is sent to the MSL listing. We both put out heads together and worded it so that it sounded more appealing.

After she left, I walked Danny and then went to the Acme to get some food. I stopped at the library to get some movies. I got some detective stories that are made for TV in Canada, called The Murdock Mysteries. They take place around the early 1900's in Toronto. They are pretty good. I don't like much that's on TV these days.

I also did some shredding today. I finished shredding the year 2000. I have a box of 1999 in the basement and two boxes of the company files to be gone through and shredded. After I file my 2009 taxes, I guess I can shred 2001.

My friend Phyllis called while I was in the Acme. She was in the hospital. She hasn't been feeling well. It turns out her new cat scratched her and she got an infection from it. It is called cat scratch fever. I hope she feels better soon. She and her husband were to start on their journey in their mobile home and begin their retirement.

I also called my sister-in-law, Sylvia to see how things were going. They were in an accident when they left my house after my dinner on the Sunday after Christmas. They were not hurt but their car will take three weeks to be repaired. Someone ran into the back of them.

Keep my sister-in-law, Kathy is your prayers as she copes with her cancer and decides with the doctors the treatment that is best for her.

Thursday, January 7, 2010

It wasn't as cold today. I took Danny out and we ran into Leo and Brindle. Leo doesn't like Danny and is nasty to him. The owner of the dogs has them on leashes that extend and I don't know why he let's them run the lead all the way out. At the extend length, there is no way to control the dog. The dogs surrounded Danny and me. I was caught up in the leads. They were wrapped around my legs and I wasn't able to reach Danny. Anyway, we got untangled and Danny was OK. I walked over and thanked Ida for the gifts she gave me. She asked if I knew that someone had come over and took the dryer out of my shed. She watches everything and doesn't miss a trick. I had told my niece to get the dryer when hers broke down. It's good to know someone is looking out for me.

I got things packed up and dropped the movies off at the library, took some photos of the ice on the marina and canal, and headed to Vineland. It was a good trip home. I unpacked the car and vegetated for awhile. I put my dinner in the oven and waited for it to heat.

I made a TO DO list for tomorrow and will do some reading.

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

I feel like I’m back living in New England. It is cold and it was snowing when I woke up. It has been cloudy for days. A little sun came out this afternoon. I took my movies back to the library and got some new ones. I took Danny with me and since it was near noon, I parked at the little park in town and walked him around town. The marina was frozen except near the floating docks where they had some kind of bubble machine making bubbles in the dock area. The canal is tidal so the docks make get frozen and when the tide changes, it could damage the docks and the boats. There were not many boats but there were a few.

We proceeded over to the canal. There were chunks of ice floating eastward. They were moving fast. If I were in a canoe, I wouldn’t have had to paddle. The current would have zipped me along and I wouldn’t have had to paddle. I didn’t have my camera with me or I would have taken pictures. I have to return my movies tomorrow so maybe I can get some shots then.
Things in town were pretty much closed. The general store was open and the café but not much else. It is basically a summer tourist town. The post office, library, and bank are not in town, they are just outside on the west side of town. I live on the east side.

I don’t seem to get much done in this weather. When I take Danny out, it just seems to zap the energy out of me. I did try to fix the weather striping on the door but it seems the door is too small for the frame. I need some fatter weather strip or may have to put some moldings around the door and make it like the back door.

I could have put up the brackets for my curtain rods but I didn’t have the energy to do that. I curled up with my blanket and my dog and watched my movies.

I put away some of the Christmas linens and threw some in the laundry basket. I will take the trees down the next time I come. I enjoy seeing the lights. Today is the Epiphany so it’s the last day of Christmas. When I get back to Vineland, I’ll have to take the tree down there. I don’t have too much up in either place. I leave the candles in the windows for awhile. I will have to separate my decorations into groups. Anything that a mouse might eat, I’ll have to store in here. Glass ornaments can go out in the shed. I had two wreaths stored in my garage. One was made of yarn and the other hemp string. A mouse had shredded the tail of the hemp. It looked like fine wool. A little of the yarn wreath was chewed off but it was not noticeable.

Danny has been taken out so we are both ready to curl into bed. I’ll do some reading and then get some sleep.

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

It's still bitter cold outside. I went to the church for exercise class but no one showed up. As I drove past the marina, I noticed it was frozen over. Danny doesn't seem to mind the cold. I put his coat on him and he just trots along. He wants to keep going but I get cold so I pull him along toward home.

I went to the bank after leaving the church. I had a problem with the online banking. The power company didn't get my check. I had a confirmation that it was mailed so the lady in the bank checked it out. The lady has a southern accent which reminded me that I am in Dixie. The lady looked into my problem and it appears that my account number wasn't on the check. I don't know how I missed that but I just do not have good luck with online banking. She called the power company and they will search for my check. I have to call them later in the week to see if they found it.

I next went to the Library and found a couple movies. I got the Pink Panther with Steve Martin and The Pirates of the Carribean, World's End. I watched one this afternoon and the other this evening. It was just too cold to do anything outside and I just wanted to hover down under a blanket.with my little dog curled up next to me. I had some pot roast for lunch and crab soup for dinner. They went down well in this weather.

My friend Dottie called this evening and we talked for awhile. I am now ready to crawl into bed, turn on the blanket and read some more of my book. It is Centenial by James A Mitchner.

I got up early and called Spike the plumber. The furnace was making a whomp noise when it lit. At first he didn't know what was causing it but made some adjustments and fixed it. Danny and I finished packing up and were on our way. We had lunch at Mikey D's and got some gas at WaWa in Woodstown. When we got here, I unpacked the car and took Danny for a walk. It was cold but not as brutal as the previous three days.

I thawed out some pot roast and had it for dinner. I talked to my niece on the phone and watch Magnum, PI on the computer. Danny and I are both ready to hit the hay.

Sunday, January 3, 2010

I Packed up the car and got ready for church. Pastor Donchez preached today. He talked about Christmas and how the world now ends Christmas at midnight Dec. 25th. On the 26th, you see Christmas Trees thrown out on the curb. Christmas used to be from Christmas Eve until the Epiphany which on January 6th is the Twelfth Day of Christmas. Now, we start Christmas on Black Friday and end on the 26th. We have forgotten what Christmas is about. Epiphany means God on earth. Some cultures celebrate the Three Kings Day, when the Wise-men came to worship Jesus.

After church, I walked Danny and it was brutal. The wind was gusting at 50 mph and the windchill was in the single digits. We didn't go far, just far enough for Danny to do his business. I decided not to go to CC. I don't like the wind on the Delaware Memorial. Last time it was windy, I could feel it blowing the car around on the bridge.

Cheryl called while I was walking Danny. They were able to get the dryer out of my storage shed and take it to their home. They hooked it up and it works fine. I'm glad they could use it. I was going to sell it. Someone asked if I would just sell the washer and I wondered if I could sell them separately. Now, I will have room in my shed.

I am running out of food here. It was too cold to go to the store. I just wanted to stay wrapped up in my blanket with Danny curled up next to me. I was watching Lord of the Rings but it must be going on until midnight. I wish they would have started at 7 rather than 8. I'll have to borrow it from the Library to see the ending.

I packed things up but it was too cold and windy to pack the car and drive to CC and then unpack. I was too cold and tired after walking Danny. I didn't do much but stay in and keep warm.

I took my DVD's back to the Library and took my flameless candles back to Rite Aid. There were three in the box and two were defective and didn't light.

I watched a couple movies on TNT and now I am ready to go to sleep.

Friday Flowerblogging

decemberrose.jpg

The holidays get me mixed up about what day it is. It feels like Saturday or Sunday. I had prepared this December Rose for today's blog but forgot today was Friday. This was taken on December 6th.

It was a quiet day. My friend did not feel up to going to the movies so I spent the day alone with Danny. I pruned some plants and repotted one. Its pot had disintegrated. I had another pot handy so I placed the plant in it.

I started painting the basement. I painted two thirds of the entryway going down the steps, including the ceiling. I used up two partially filled cans and when I dumped the partial third can in the tray, it looked gray. The label said "Pure White". It didn't look so pure to me. I realized it was the sage paint I used in the computer room. I didn't want to pour it back into the can so I used it to paint the part of the foundation at the bottom of the steps that is on a slant. It slopes about four feet from the bottom of the basement. The sage color makes it look like concrete. It was way past noon and Danny needed to be walked. I heard him upstairs barking at the dogs across the street who were barking.

We went on our walk and then had some lunch. I put on the TV and watched some movies. Cheaper by the Dozen II was on followed by Night at the Museum. They were both good except for the commercials. I don't have patience for commercials interrupting movies. I tried to make some phone calls but no one seemed to be home on New Years Day. My mother-in-law called me back around eight. After talking with her, I took Danny out back and got ready for bed. I'll do some more reading before falling asleep.
