November 27 Morning Update

I spoke to my oncologist this morning. We have not made any final decisions yet. I have yet to speak with the radiation guy and I’m not looking forward to it. In my opinion the man is a jerk. I though my oncologist’s body language seemed a little off.

On another issue I spoke with a researcher that works with hyperthermia. To my surprise he was extraordinarily helpful and forthcoming. He gave me the name and phone number for someone at the University of Texas to talk to and he gave me two web sites to visit – here and here. He also gave me a protocol to follow.

I was really taken aback by his forthrightness and desire to help.

He said I should do the hyperthermia as soon after my chemo as possible. He suggested going to a temperature of 105.8 degrees F for four hours. He stressed not going over. He said not to do it more than once a week. He also suggested I do a blood pressure reading every half hour, which I had already planned to do. He said the best way to get a body core temperature was with a rectal thermometer – that sounds like fun.

My oncologist suggested I see him directly. His emphasis seemed to be on the legal responsibility for the recommendation. I’m not sure how that improves my results.

Hi Ted

Are you in Elmer Hospital or where are you? Sounds like they are taking good care of you. If thay do the procedure I do hope it take. My nephew had the treatment at Deborah Hospital years ago and he is doing fine. That medicine you are getting sound great!!!!!! I think Danny boy is really missing you!!! They seem to get attached very quickly. I'm praying for you and am hoping for a good outcome.

God Bless you and Karol

You are getting a lot of good information it seems. Sorting it all out is another thing. I feel confident in your knowledge and confidence to make the best choices for you and your body. Now, I'll have to admit the rectal thermometer part doesn't sound like the most fun, however, whatever it takes. We seem to lose a great deal of our modesty when undergoing medical procedures, as I'm sure you would readily agree. That being said, I am keeping you in my prayers and hoping that everything goes well. Also, it would be so great if Karol could bring Danny Boy in for a visit. We'll see. Sometimes, the hospital personnel understand that pets can make a very positive difference in health-care situations. I know of a situation where that was allowed very recently.
God Bless You Ted and may you be going home before too long feeling a whole lot better than when you went in. Sincerely, Ruth

Ted,

I like the two websites you posted. I think this is something really worth thinking about.

Good luck with the decisions with the doctors.

Your outlook is very positive and I think you might have a strong advocate with the researcher.
