My friend, Alice and I walked in the Chesapeake City Canal Run/Walk. I was a drizzly day but cool. Many time in June, it is very hot and humid. The north side of the canal was recently paved with asphalt with benches and shrubs along the way. Restrooms were also along the way but we only did a 5k and didn't go far enough to see them. It was the opening for the walkway along the canal that goes from Chesapeake City to Delaware City. I don't know if it is completed all the way or not. It is for walking, biking and horseback riding. I'll have to ride my bike along it to check it out.

I feel like June has been Monsoon weather. Looks like we got 2 1/2 inches of rain. The Army Corp of Engineers has had the flood gates open all week. The spillway is running high. It should be a trickle this time of year.

Went to dinner with my niece and her family. We had to dash out in the rain to get in and out of the car. I had to take Sparky out in the rain between downpours. Danny would go on the nearest bush to the steps but not Sparky, he has to go out front and then out back. He hates getting wet and he hates even more to be dried off with a towel. I almost always have to dry off his feet ever time I take him out which is 3 or 4 times a day. You would think he'd be used to it by now. He groans and growls but sticks up his paws for me to dry them. He's a funny dog.

Friday Flower Bloggin'

062515asialily.gif

My beautiful Asiatic Lily. The lilies did very well this year except for the rain knocking them down. My Stella D'Ora are doing well I have yellow ones and a red one. I would like to get some more.

I am very blessed to have several neighbors who offered to take me and Sparky in when my air conditioner was broken. The thunderstorm cooled the air outside and I used a window fan to bring the cool air in but it was so humid I could hardly breath. So I spent the night with my next door neighbor, Robin. What a blessing she is. The repair man came on Thursday and got the air conditioner up and running but it is in need of more parts and would cost almost as much as a new one so I opted for a new one. This one is 16 years old and they usually last 10 years. I didn't want to have to go through it breaking down again. It was 90 degrees in here. The fans only cooled it down to 83. They come to install the new system on July 8th.

I take my car to the body shop on June 27. It will be there 4 days. The other lady's insurance if paying for it and for a rental car.

"When the Sky is a Bright Canary Yellow"

canarysky.gif

After the thunder storm passed through last evening, I was sitting on the sofa and a golden light came flooding in the east side windows as if it were sunrise. I looked out and the sky was all yellow. I got my camera and took this photo out the west side. I never saw the entire sky a bright yellow and it was about 8:30pm. It was really cool.

Wouldn't you know it, my air-conditioner broke down on the hottest day of the year. It was nearly 100 degrees and it got up to 89 in the house with ceiling fans and the window fan going. A thunderstorm came through and cooled it off outside but I could only get the house cooled done to 83. I had taken Sparky over the my neighbor, Robin's and at 9:45, I gave up on trying to get the house cooled down. I called Robin and asked if I could sleep on her sofa. She took me in for the night. Pumping in the outside air is full of humidity and makes it difficult to breath.

Alice called and said she was not walking this morning. She wasn't feeling well and the wind damaged her Sunsetter awning. She has a wind sensor on hers but Thunderstorms came blow in quickly and can have winds of 60 mile and hour. My Sunsetter doesn't have the wind sensor so I keep it up when not using it. I put it down in the afternoon around 1pm when the sun gets over the trees and heats up the west side.

May was very warm this year with lots of rain. I had an invasion of small sugar ants. I had to have the exterminator twice. The neighbors did, too. There used to be a sawmill on this property so I guess it's a haven for ants.

Alice and I have started walking along the canal in the mornings. It's a nice pleasant walk. We go at 6:30 to avoid the heat. She drives a school bus so is not able to walk during the school year. She has to be at work at 6am.

We celebrated Father's Day on Saturday because the weather forecast called for rain on Sunday. Well, it rained Saturday and was sunny on Sunday. It didn't rain until late afternoon so we were able to enjoy the pool.

Sparky is ready to go out.

We had a guest speaker at church this morning. She was promoting a youth program to be presented next spring. She had hardly gotten started when I thought she needed a course in public speaking. She used a lot of "and ah" and "um's". I used to judge speech contests and it was painful to have to listen to her. I don't remember a thing she said. She went on and on. We had some visitors this morning and I thought if I were a first time visitor to this church, I would never come back. I felt instead of promoting her program, I was turned off. She appealed for money to finance it but it was a poor presentation. I know she was committed to her cause but she didn't come across well. At least not for me. The service ran over and the people for the second service where waiting in the back to get in.

When I got home, it was already too hot to do any yard work. I had to walk the dog in the shade in the back yard. He wanted to go around the block but it was too hot. He can't take the heat. He gets half way around the block and plops down in the shade to rest. He also gets ticks if the neighbor's grass is not cut. One of my friends who allows me to cut through her yard hasn't cut her grass all year. Some stole her mower. I offered to lend her mine but her boyfriend said he would bring his riding mower. So far, he hasn't done that. I had to stop taking Sparky through there, as he got ticks every time. He don't like staying out on the road and with this hot weather, the asphalt is too hot for his feet.

I stayed in the air conditioning all day.

I went to my cousin Cookie's son's fiancé's bridal shower. It was held at my cousin Rosemary's house in Chatham, PA. It was a lovely festive occasion. Francesca, from Italy, was overwhelmed. She never got so many gifts in her life. They do not have showers in Italy. She had tears of joy in her eyes. She is a very sweet, lovely young woman. It was wonderful to get together with my cousins. They are a lot of fun.

TBT (Throw Back Thursday) On Facebook, people post old photos on Thursday.

This photo was taken by me on one of our long weekends in Wildwood Crest, NJ. It was around 1993. Ted, Don and I took a cruise on a tall ship out of Two Mile Landing. Dad had gone with us but didn't go on the ship. Ted had disappeared for awhile and when he came up from below deck, I said, "Ted, they are serving lunch." He, looking rather green said, "NO Thank you." We were going through the inlet at Cape May and the waves are rather large and rough there. You can see the tilt of the ship. My brother, Don, having been in the Navy has seen rougher seas.

I always get behind on my blogging. I spend so much time on the computer that I just don't get to it. I have been giving my gardening top priority. The weeds have gotten out of hand. I was going to tear the mint out of my west flowerbed and saw the garter snake sunning him or herself in a bare spot. It is probably the same one as last year. I have to carefully look under all the hostas and outer plants to make sure I or it doesn't get surprised.

My next door neighbor had a huge snapping turtle in her back yard. It is probably the same one that was in my yard last year. The come out of the water in the spring to lay their eggs. I thought good lay them in her yard, not mine. Well, the turtle disappeared and I was weeding a section of the flower beds on the west side. When I got done the section I had planned on doing, I looked up and there she was, by the silver maple tree, watching me and waiting for me to get done so she could lay her eggs in my flower bed. Only, she didn't pick the same area as last year, She kept trying to dig under the metal post for my electric meter. She must have given up as she disappeared and left the ground undisturbed except for a couple flowers she had knocked over. Juan came to cut the grass and I had to run out and tell him about the turtle so he could give her a wide birth and not disturb her or get bitten by her. Maybe the noise of the mower was too much for her and she moved on. I hope no one picked her up to make turtle soup out of her. Last year, I looked up on the internet and found that they lay their eggs in the spring and they hatch out in early fall and run straight for the water. I was hoping to see them but they either hatched in the middle of the night or a snake got them.

Throw Back Thursday.

tbtdkmwildwood.gif

Oh Those Wildwood Days. Don, me, and Moma at the Homestead around 1956. We stayed there several summers on our vacation to Wildwood. The place is a mess today. I think the owner's son has a modern motel in Wildwood. The old neighborhoods in Wildwood are run down. Nice neighborhoods are in the Crest and North Wildwood. Boardwalk and beaches are still wonderful.

I went to visit one of my friends from church who is not always able to attend. Ursula was the treasurer whom I assisted. Her husband became very ill and she had to stay at home to care for him and then her own health had declined. Her husband passed away last year. She has a beautiful home on the Elk River. Her livingroom, kitchen, and family room all have large windows overlooking the river. Her home has been for sale for about a year. The economy is such that homes are not moving unless you practically give them away.

It is always nice to get together with my church friends. It is wonderful that they have included me in their group as they have all known each other for many years and I am "the new kid on the block."

It rained hard for 2 days. Their is over 2 inches in the rain gauge that we very much needed. I could have filled my rain barrel twice, maybe more. Too bad I don't have another barrel. I will probably need it in a couple weeks when it warms up again and we het another hot dry spell.
