082913geranium.jpg

I bought two geraniums. This one did very well but the other did not. It is only tow inches tall. I don't know why. Maybe one needed more water than the other or the acid level in the soil was different.

When I looked out the door this morning, I was surprised to see the deck all wet again. It had rained overnight. The sun is shinning now and it should be a nice day. The forecast for the rest of the weekend is not so good, rain Sunday and Monday. We shall see.

There was over an inch and a half in the rain gauge. We really needed it. I didn't do much today. I ironed my capris and the outfit I'll be wearing on Sunday. Things get smashed in the closet and need to be pressed off. It will be the last weekend of the summer. I really miss spending Saturday afternoons and evenings in Ocean City, NJ with Ted. On holiday weekends, we'd go on Sunday. We would go after the traffic cleared out and most people going to the shore were already there and those staying the weekend or week wouldn't be returning home, yet. We would walk along the boardwalk and eat at one of our favorite restaurants. Then we would walk along the beach, sit on the jetty, or on a bench at the music pier. We would get a custard or Blizzard and sit on the lifeguard stand watching the waves and the moon rising over the ocean. I could go down and sit by the canal and hope the mosquitoes don't get me. There is an ice cream shop there but if I have Sparky with me, I can't go in the get it. They don't have an outside window.

I went to Bible Study this morning. It started raining as I drove into town. It was a light rain. I went a little early to see if there were any bills that needed paying. There wasn't anything urgent. After Bible Study, I headed home and took Sparky out. I had a PB&J sandwich and prepared my sausage and peppers for dinner. I didn't get it ready in time so I'll have it tomorrow.

Around dinner time, it started raining hard and I didn't get Sparky out until 9pm. We got over an inch of much needed rain. There were some loud thunder claps and Sparky ran in and jumped on my lap. He does that when he gets scared. Danny would hide under the bed but he was shorter than Sparky. I don't know if Sparky could fit under the bed. Danny had to crawl under. Sparky has his crate if he wants to hide but he only goes in there to get his toys. I keep them in the crate.

I went to the church this morning to help with folding the newsletter. Bob has printed the addresses on the newsletter itself so we didn't have to stick the labels on. We just had to fold and put the seals on the sides. It went rather quickly.

It was warm today with a hot breeze coming out of the southwest. The humidity has built up again but it is very dry. Rain is predicted for tomorrow so we shall see. I replaced a washer on my hose; I hope it will stop the leak. If not, I'll have to cut the old connection off and put a new one on. I don't know if I have any or not. I can't find anything in the shed. I have too much in piled in there. I either have to move the mower out or climb over it to get in. Most of the stuff in there is Christmas decorations. There are some files from the business that I need to go through and get rid of.

Monday, wash day. I did two loads of wash this morning and hung them out on the line. I went to the church to work on a spreadsheet in Excel for the missions donations. I haven't done a spreadsheet for six years. Luckily, Bob, the administrative asst. was there to help me. It went better than I had thought.

This afternoon, I went to Redner's Market to get some groceries and dog food..

Church of God in Chincoteague, VA.

I went to church this morning and helped with the deposit afterward. When I got home, I watered some of my flowers, little trees I recently planted and some of the bushes. It has been very dry the past few weeks.

This afternoon, I went to my Grand Nephew, Ethan's 2nd Birthday party. He likes Kung Fu Panda so that was the theme of his party. All his little cousin's were there on both sides of the family. I got him a big stuffed panda bear as well as grandparents, aunts and uncles.

I did some wash early this morning. I had to wait until the heavy dew dried off before I could cut the grass. I cut it at 2:00. When I got done, I was ready to get a shower but the water was turned off. There was a break somewhere and it was difficult to find it. The water was off all afternoon. It came back on a little after 5pm. I hope it is fixed. The water was off for a while yesterday while they tried to track down the leak.

Friday Flowerbloggin'

082413flowers.jpg

Flowers have filled in nicely along the east side of my driveway. My portulacas were so slow in coming up that I thought they wouldn't so I ran to my friend's who son grows flowers and got what was left of the portulacas and filled the flat with vincas and a couple ageratums. They did very well with all the rain we had in July.

It threatened rain all day so I didn't do any wash or cut the grass. Of course, it didn't rain. I went to the church to enter some things into the computer and went on to the bank and produce stand. I got some corn, tomatoes, egg plant, and peaches.

Thursday, August 22, 2013

I waited until 9:30 and went to find the Toys R Us store. I looked it up on my talblet and took it with me in case I couldn't find it. I went the back way as I 95 is a mess in that area. I went into Babies R Us and they directed me to the Toys R Us store down the road. I wanted to get a stuffed panda bear for my grand nephew, Ethan's birthday on Sunday. I saw the Tiger Direct Store in the same complex. I have seen it from the interstate but never knew how to get there. On the way home, I stopped a a Dollar Tree store to get a large gift bag for the bear but they didn't have one big enough. I have a big red bag in the closet, I'll have to use that. It's a Christmas bag but since its all red it should be OK. I got a few things including a lid for dog food cans. That will be good for Sparky's dog food. I give him dry dog food but he doesn't like it so I mix a spoonful of canned food in with it.

I also stopped in at the new Shop-Rite on route 896. It used to be a Pathmark Supermarket but it closed. I was happy to see the Shop-Rite. They have the best prices. I started to go into the store and a lady said, "We're not open yet." "Oh," I said. Bummer. They open tomorrow. I don't know when I'll get back as I don't always go that way. I don't get sale circulars anymore. They used to come in a little weekly newspaper but they either stopped delivering it here or it went out of business. I only get the Acme and another market over in Glasgow. I miss getting the others. They had K-mart, Wal-mart, Food Lion, Big Lots, Family Dollar and some others.

I heard some thunder but it hasn't rained. It's time to get some dinner. I finished my stuffed peppers at lunch today so it will be chicken, potatoes, and carrots tonight.

I met Cindy at the church at 4:30 and i showed her how to cut a manuel check on the computer. The session went well. She learns very quickly.

Pastor Mark came in and reminded me of the Ad Council meeting tonight. Bummer.

I went home, walked and fed Sparky and gobbled down my dinner.

The Ad Council is a meeting of all the committees of the church. Since I have taken over for Ursula, I needed to present the financial report. The meeting went fine but was long because of all the committees having to give their reports.

Monty gave the budget report part of the finance committee. He wanted to speak to me afterwards so we were the last ones there. I thought he would set the alarm but he wanted me to do it. I guess I did it right as the police didn't call.

I went to Church this morning and did the offering with Tucker. I gave some of my peppers to Tina and Kathy. They are going to make stuffed peppers. That's what I did today. They turned out good. I'll have to do some more and freeze them. The rest of the day, I rested. I was tired out from all the yard work.

More weeding this morning. In the afternoon, I took Sparky into town to walk around. I figured he gets bored walking around the mobile home park. He liked sniffing all the different things and meeting all the different people.

Marlene brought my logs over. She had put them in her car as she got tired of waiting for her boys to bring them over. I only wanted one but she had three. I am going to make a rustic bench out of them sort of like they had in Assateague. I will have it under my tree where I have a lead for Sparky so I'll be able to sit there with him. Now I have to wait for my niece's husband to come over with his chain saw to cut the piece I'll use for the lags and put notches in it for the bench.

This photo was taken August 2010 in Vineland, NJ. I took some photos of my new butterfly bush on my cell phone but have not been able to download them as yet. Swallowtail butterflies are plentiful this year and my new bush is doing well. I planted it in June and we had a lot of rain so it is doing well. It has blooms and butterflies. I have done a lot of weeding halfway down the west side. Still more to do. It's never-ending especially with all the rain we've had.

Thursday, August 15, 2013

I haven't heard from Ruth in a month. I hope she is well. I tried sending an email but got no reply.

I got out early this morning. I babysat Ethan as Cheryl went to work and Ed had to take their dog to the vet by 8am. Ethan is usually still sleeping but was awake early. He must have known his parents were up to something. He was good. He likes to watch Kung Fu Panda and get out his toys. He looked out the window a lot to see if Ed was coming back. He will be having a birthday soon. He will be 2 years old.

When I got home, I did some wash and hung it up to dry. After lunch, I transplanted a dogwood tree that sprang up in my flowerbed. I'm glad it did as Hurricane Sandy took out my dogwood tree that was growing on the east side of the house. I was able to easily rock the dead tree back and forth and it came right out of the ground. It did not had much of a root system and what was there was dead. I planted the new little dogwood in it's spot. I cut the grass. It was cooler today but I still work up a sweat when cutting the grass. My new butterfly bushes are blooming. One is lavender and the other is white. I also took a hoe and started scraping my lawn back. It has spread out over the road. I have a lot more of that left to do.

I met with Cindy before supper. The church has a new alarm system and this was the first time I used it. I had trouble disarming it. I thought I had done it correctly but while Cindy and I were working, the police showed up. Evidently, I did it wrong. I put in the code but pushed the wrong button to enter the code. I didn't have on my reading glasses so I pushed the wrong button. My session with Cindy went well. I was teaching her how to enter bills in the computer. Cindy agreed to help out. We don't know if Ursula will be coming back or not. She had to have more surgery and it knocked the wind out of her sails. I hope and pray for her recovery.

I woke up early and got Sparky out just in time as severe storms were forecast with tornatoes on the ground not too far away from here. I said a prayer as I was looking out at the sky and when I went back to the TV, the severe storm warning was canceled for our area. Thank you, Lord.

Back to the church I went to try to straighten out the financial report. it took most of the morning but I think I got it. I also had to cut a couple checks. I left some other checks to show Cindy how to enter them. I'll have to meet with here in the evening as she works. It may take some time to train her in the begining but after that, things should be easier.

This I believe is the Episcopal Church in Chincoteague, VA.

It is such a peaceful little town. It's like traveling back in time. There are no malls, very few chains, no Walmarts, K-Marts or Home Depots. Very few motel chains. Most are just family run businesses. The people of Chincoteague do not speak in a southern accent. I think because they were isolated from the main land. They sided with the north during the Civil War. It is a very interesting place.

Saturday, August 10, 2013

I weeded my front garden along the fence. It's amazing how many weeds I pulled out. The ground was soft from all the rain so they came out easily. I have flowers on both sides of the fence so it took most of the morning. I put Sparky on the deck while I worked. I put him out there if it's not too hot. He likes to jump up on the picnic table and look out at the road to see the people walking and driving by.

I had some corn on the cob and baked beans for lunch. I was watching a show on the television and went to the kitchen to get another ear of corn. When I came back, Sparky was up on the coffee table eating my baked beans. Wonderful, he'll probably be gassy all day. I gave him a charcoal biscuit. Maybe that will help. He can be a little mess.

We finally got a day without rain although it did sprinkle a few drops. We had an inch on Thursday and another 3 tenths yesterday. It rained all last week. There is a nice blue sky out there now.

Friday Flowerbloggin'

081013impatien.jpg

This pretty little New Guinea Impatien was a birthday gift from my niece. It is much deeper pink but the flash went off and made it look lighter. I tried to enhance it as best I could. This was taken earlier in the spring and it is a lot fuller now. It did real well.

John, my neighbor brought me a basket of Porta Bella Mushrooms. I'll divide them up and give some away. I can't eat them all.

I went to the church and did some work with the finances on the computer. When I went home, I walked Sparky and had some lunch. After lunch, I went to the Home Depot to get a new faucet for my kitchen as it was leaking and falling apart. I found out because, when I came out yesterday morning, ants were crawling all over the sink and were coming out of the space where the faucet fastens to the sink. My plumber, Juan, took a look and said the ants like to get into the pressed wood of the counter when it gets wet. I had to spray all around the faucets with Spectracide to get rid of them They have been a big problem this summer for everyone. I get rid of them in one area and they come out in another. They were coming up the water line to the ice maker of the frig. They were in the laundry room, the computer room and coming down the top of the kitchen cabinets after I sprayed around the windows for them. I spray around the house but they come up from underneath the trailer. They are tiny little ants.

I also went to the Dollar Tree and got $25.00 worth of stuff. I needed all sizes of food storage bags. I make a list of taxable things and go to DE to get them. I also got 2014 calendars as last year, I waited too long and their were no calendars anywhere. Usually, I get several sent to me or given to me by the merchants but not last year. I went to the Supermarket in that complex to get a few things.

I grilled a couple mushrooms for dinner and sprinkled them with cheese. I also had some corn on the cob and cantaloupe.

Tuesday August 6, 2013

It was a busy day. I did some yard work including knocking down my dead dogwood tree. I thought my nephew, Ed would have to cut it down with his chain saw but I took off the bungy cord that I had attached it to and wiggled it back and forth and it came right out. The roots were dead and it broke right off. The roots were not very deep. It had been knocked over by Hurricane Sandy. I tried to stake it back up but to no avail.

It was raining all day and miserable. I didn't do much but straighten up a little bit and put my things away that I had taken to Don's.

I tried to download photos I had taken with my phone but I guess I missed a step before removing the photos to my little scan disk. Or, maybe I didn't have it in correctly. I'll try some more.

It was a nice concert at a renovated theatre in Wilmington, DE. My friend, Dottie came to dog sit Sparky. She said he ran around the house looking for me at first and then settled down and cuddled up to her.

Tonight, I went to the Bible School to help out Tina with the crafts. The children made coasters out of Ceramic tiles. They glued felt on the bottom and then put stickers and things to decorate the tops. They kids were wired as they were unable to go outside for their games. They all had a good time in spite of the weather.

080413baptistchurch.jpg

This is the Baptist Church in Chincoteague near the pony auction area. I spotted it when we were trying to find a place to park. I saw other cars parking there. The auction is held at the Firemen's Carnival Grounds. They have food, rides, games, and souvenirs all benefiting the Fire Company.

I went to church and took care of the offering. Ursula had surgery on Friday and will now need radiation treatments so may not be back as Treasurer. We'll have to find someone to help me as the Treasury is now my responsibility. I needed gas for my mower so I stopped in at my niece, Cheryl's to take some food storage containers back to her. She has a part time job from her old employer. Not the one that just laid her off but the one before that. He heard she was out of work so offered her a part time job. She is still going to school for medical coding which has a better future than printing. Her husband said he would come over with his chain saw and cut down a couple of my trees that are dead. They gave me some vegetables from their garden.

Next, I went on down the road to get my gas. When I got back, I took Sparky for a walk and went to work cutting the grass on the east side and the back. My neighbor did the west side on Friday. She does it sometimes when she cuts the lawn for the vacant house on my west side. i was grateful as I have a lot of lawn to cut. It was cooler today so It wasn't so bad cutting out there. At 5pm, I went over to the Town Point Church to help with the Bible School. They had hot dogs and pretzels for dinner. They also had fruit cups and drinks. Many of the drinks were still frozen. I left mine to thaw and Tina thought no one wanted it so threw it out. It was Arizona Green Tea and all that was left were Sips that tasted nasty. I don't know how kids like that stuff. I guess its the sugar. I don't really care for hot dogs either but I eat what's served. I helped Tina with the crafts. They children made stained glass rocks. Tina had gotten some rocks and cleaned them. The children put different color tissue paper soaked in pasted onto the rocks. I saw several children from the mobile home park there. Abby said she almost didn't recognize me without Sparky. Another man didn't recognize me without my hat. I always wear a hat to church. I didn't go into the sanctuary because the smell of mildew was strong there. By the end of the night, I was sneezing so I bolted out. I got half way down the road and realized I forgot 3 children who I was to bring home. I had to find a place on the narrow road to turn around. Luckily, I got back before they realized I was gone. I'm glad I remembered them. Two of the girls were helping with the Bible School and Trenton was one of the children in the class. They are children living with their grandmother. They are wonderful Christian children.

I went to the church to pay the bills. I thought I'd only be about a half hour. I was there all morning. I had to research some bills and look up things in the files. I rushed home to walk Sparky and have some lunch. I stopped at the bank and PO on my way to Town Point Church to help get ready for the Ecumenical Assoc. Bible School. I forgot my sunglasses and by the time I got there, I had a headache. I open the door to the church and was greeted by the overwhelming smell of mold and mildew in the building. I had no allergy or headache medication with me and I soon felt sick at my stomach. I came home took some Benedryl, Excedrin Migraine, and some Coke, and spent the rest of the day lying on the sofa. I don't know if I will be able to go to that church to help out. The Bible School starts on Sunday Evening. We shall see.

Thursday, August 1, 2013

I woke up at 4:15 and went back to bed. At 5:45, Sparky woke me up with what sounded like an asthma attack. He's done that a couple times. It scares me. Sometimes Danny did that. Sparky also has sneezing fits. Danny's first vet said little dogs are prone to allergies. I guess because they are so close to the ground and breath in all the grass pollen and dust.

I did a lot of ironing this morning. I still have more to do. I did the week before my vacation and now I have to do the vacation clothes. I will need them for Bible School next week. I will be helping with that. It is an Ecumenical Bible School. The local churches joined together, pulled their resources for one Bible School for all denominations. For some kids, Bible School is the only way they get to hear about Jesus.

It is pouring down rain today. I did get Sparky out for his morning walk but not his noon time walk. I guess I'll have to see if he runs to the door to go out.

I went to Bible Study in the morning and then to fill up my gas tank. Valero in Elkton was $3.549/gal. Other stations were $3.659. From there, I stopped in Redner's Supermarket and took Sparky's dog food back to Concord Pet. When I opened the bag, it reeked of plastic. I was afraid to give it to him. They took it back and saw the expiration date was Sept. 2013. Most are a year for the expiration. It must have been sitting around the storeroom in the heat for the plastic bag smell to get into the food. Anyway, they gladly exchanged it with and expiration of July 2014. I never thought to look at the date for dog food.

I laid down most to the evening with a sinus headache.
