Friday Flowerblogging

tedsforsythia.jpg

This is a photo taken by Ted in 2005. He made a greeting card from this photo.

I had my weekly meeting with my staff and Carolina moved to her office. She is happy about the move and having her new office. Maria and I worked on the adjusting entries; I entered them and ran the trial balance. I went out to lunch with Sonia, my accounts payable clerk. This is a different Sonia than the one that used to work for Ted and me. We had a nice lunch at a nearby restaurant. It was very cold today. Danny was out in the pen when I went to pick him up. He and Cami were running around all excited. Cami jumped up on me and I have collie fur all over my coat. I don't know which is worse, having to constantly groom Danny or to have dog hair all over everything.

I had ordered some pizzas from Erica. They were a church fundraiser. I had a couple slices for dinner. I don't know if my oven is not working properly or what. The pizza was supposed to bake at 400-450 degrees for 6-8 minutes. I put it in for 7. When I opened the door, it was not done. So baked it another 8 minutes and then another 4 and then another 4. The darn thing would not bake properly. It was hot but the cheese was not melted. I was disappointed. I'll be having it for lunch tomorrow. Maybe it will turn out better.

It's a cold night out there. I just got in from walking Danny. I took him out right after choir practice. We are getting ready for Palm Sunday and Easter. We also practiced two hymns for Sunday.

It's late. I went to Bible Study and I have the Bible on my Palm. The screen froze and I couldn't turn it off. I got absolutely no response from it. When I got home, I walked Danny and then look up the Palm website. I was in there chat room tech support for an hour. They helped me to get it reset but now is charging before I can do more with it. It looks like it is OK.

I did the payroll today and it seemed to go smoothly. Maria helped me with the journal entry that was giving me trouble and Carolina is happy with her new office. She was cleaning it today. It was a mess. She should move in tomorrow or Friday. They have to get her computer set up.

Danny and I are both wet. There was a heavy downpour when I left work. I got Danny at his kennel and Cami rushed out to the outer kennel. She was right up next to the gate wanted to get out. I couldn't budge her. Danny and I were both standing in the rain. I went back inside to get her lead and pulled her back to the inside kennel. Danny and I made a dash for the car and went home. I dried him off and then got dinner ready. He wanted to go out as he had not done his business. It had let up some but it was a steady downpour. I took him out and the little guy wanted to walk in the rain and like a little kid went splashing through the puddles. We both got soaked again.

I am exhausted so hope to get to bed early.

scill1.jpg Here is my photo of the Siberian Scilla. Ted took a photo of this plant about this same time of year in 2005. You can scroll down and look on the right for February 2005. Click on February and scroll down until you see the photo. They are an early bloomer and can sometimes be hiding under leaves or snow. I took two photos but lost one when I transfered from the camera. I was editing this photo when I was finished editing, I clicked on the X and the other photo disapeared. Bummer!

I had lunch with my friends from church today. The dog across the street has been barking all day and has Danny all hyper. Danny wants to go meet him but he is a pit bull and there is no way I will let Danny near him. Danny doesn't know that he is a little dog. He wanted to go bark at a German Sheppard this morning. I'll take him out around 4:30. Right now, I want to make sure all the entries are in the computer for Ted's company so I can run the reports.

Saturday, February 23. 2008

I looked back through Ted's blog yesterday to February 2006 and found Ted had posted a photo of my Siberian Scrilla. I looked out front and there was my Scrilla blooming. I took a couple photos of it and will post tomorrow. I went to the Chiropractor this morning. My back was feeling sore when I bent down to get in the car. My lower back, near my shoulder blade that got jarred when I hit my elbow, and I had a kink in my neck. None of it was serious but I wanted to get an alignment. He gave me the clicker in all the spots I mentioned. I feel much better.

I didn't get much else accomplished. I sorted through some of Eastern Business documents and made sure everything is entered in the checkbook. Now I have to run some reports to make sure everything has been entered in the computer. I will then run the reports my accountant needs to file 2007 taxes and close out the business. It will be a relief to get that done.

I scrolled through some jobs in PA. I may take another look at that option. I do not like being alone and away from my family. What if I got sick and needed help? Who would even know or who would help me? Who would take care of Danny? He scratched at the door when I went to the chiropractor. He looks broken hearted when I leave him. He loves to go out and I have to spell the word, as he gets all excited when he hears the words walk, out or ready. He runs around waging his tail, keeping close to my heels. I nearly step on him or trip over him. He seems to know when I am going out.

An inch of snow is on the ground out there this morning and still snowing. I don't know what the latest forcast. Last night it was 1-3 inches then changing to rain.

I slipped on the ice at work today. I am OK but have some bruses. I felt nausia as the day went on so went to the company doctor. They exrayed my elbow and it was fine. He checked to make sure I didn't have a concussion. It looked like water beside my car when I got out. i shut the door, turned around and my feet went out from under me. I happened so fast. I landed on my butt and my elbow and my head hit a rubber tire on the truck parcked next to me. The tire saved my head from hitting the asphalt. I checked out OK. The Doctor said to take some aspirin and call him in the morning. Acturaly, he said to take some Alleve and if I get any other symtoms to call him. He said the fall could cause the nausia. It caused my nerve ending damage to flair up with pain. I am afraid I'm going to ache all over in the morning. We're supposed to get some snow over night so I may not go to work. We'll see.

Danny barked and barked since I picked him up. He didn't want to walk at the Kennel. He kept pulling to get in the car. When I got him home, the dog across the street was barking so Danny barked back. Then he barked at the television. He wanted to go out and bark at that dog. I finally took him out and he saw the dog had gone in. When we got back, he went to bed and is sleeping sounding. I'll be joining him. I hope I sleep as soundly as he does.

I woke up with a sinus headache this morning at 5:30. I took Danny out to piddle, came back in, took an Excedrin, and went back to bed. Danny doesn't know it’s a weekend. I got up at 7:30 to take him for his walk. I got on the computer and was almost late for church. After church, I came home, walked Danny and met my church friends at the Greek Restaurant. They had my favorite today. Rhodos Flounder. The flounder is rolled around a rice- spinach mixture with a tomato sauce. I didn't get much done today except for watering the plants. I did bring a part in from the garage and place it in the spare room door that I have been working on. I need to tap it with the robber mallet to seat it in place and then screw it in. The door should go back together one part at a time.

I am reading a book my friend gave me for Christmas so I'm going to get back to it.

crocuses022008.jpg

I spoke too soon. Look at what's coming.

Well, the computer’s driving me nuts. Last night, I had over 16,000 emails. The same ones kept coming in over and over again. I called Comcast and the man had up upgrade my Microsoft Outlook. (My computer upgrades daily but I did as I was instructed.) That didn’t help so I rebooted and that didn’t help either. I turned the computer off. This morning, I fired it back up and it started again. Emails from the past 3 days kept coming in, the same ones over and over. I called Comcast again this morning. The lady led me through my settings only she was trying to fix my address at Comcast.net. Ted had it set up to use the ted karol dot com. (I don’t want the internet to latch onto my email and send spam to the blog)
It was passing some kind of test so I told her I use another address. She put me on hold forever, I went through setting fix for the email address that I use, and lo and behold, problem solved. I spent hours on this problem. Not only trying to fix it but do you know how long it takes to delete 16,000 emails?

Now I’m having trouble uploading my photo to the blog. I’ll try again.

I talked to my good friend, Dottie, today. She doesn’t have email so I don’t get to communicate to her as often. It was good to talk with her.

I got a letter from the Social Security. They don’t have my company W2’s from last year. They do have my 941 that the IRS claims I never sent. These people should get together. Unbelievable! They suggest I sent it electronically. (I did). I have to make copies and sent it again.

Good news is that I fired up the company computer and my data is intact from when the server had crashed. Now, I can get moving on the company taxes and closing down the business.

Well, let’s see if I can cross a few more tasks off my list. So far, I went to the post office. Picked up debris from around the yard. Spent hours trying to fix my email. Made sure the company computer was working properly. Took a photo of my crocuses. I want to clean the fish tank and trim Danny up a little bit.

Happy Valentines Day.

This was my parent’s anniversary.

I didn't blog last night. The church had a business meeting and it was dragging along. My cell phone rang and it was my burglar alarm company. I realized right away what had happened. Danny had awakened from his after dinner nap and came downstairs to get me to take him out. I forgot to put the gate across the stairs and the motion detector detected him going down the stairs. I was literally saved by the bell. I found Danny waiting at the door for me to take him out. I still didn't get to bed until late. I just can't seem to get to bed by 9:30. I had choir practice tonight and again it late and I will be dragging tomorrow. I had a slightly better day today. I still had some challenging projects but we had a secret valentine thing going for the past week. We all drew a name out of the hat and supplied that person with little treats and things for Valentine's Day. It was fun. We would sneak the treats on the person's desk when they were not looking. One day I got a Teddy Bear with chocolate hearts, one day I got a cup with valentines on it and sugar cookies with it. I got an M&M character with tiny M&M's in it. I got Chocolate covered bing cherries. Boy were they good. I got a Valentine Heart with chocolate in it and a beautiful picture frame.

I had better turn in.

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

It's treacherous out there. My back steps and driveway are glazed over. It's a mixture of sleet, frozen rain and rain freezing on the ground. Danny didn't get much of a walk. He went to the telephone poll and I pulled him back in. He wanted to stay out and bark at the dog across the street.

Saturday, I fixed the garage wall. I had bumped it one time backing out of the garage. It was a little out of line. Ted didn't know how to fix it. He was cogitating about it. I said to take the sledgehammer and bang it back in. He said it wouldn't work. I have been taking the sledgehammer to it for months but it wouldn't stay. The nail holding it was bent. I went out Saturday with the drill and nails. I banged it back into alignment and drilled 3 pilot holes then nailed the wall to the sill board. It is much easier to close and lock the door now.

It was one of my accomplishments for the weekend.

Right now, I'm going to crawl into bed with a good book and fall asleep.

Monday, February 11, 2008

I just found the computerized house lighting program. It could have bitten me. It was right there in front of my face. I adjusted the hall lights to start to come up at 5:15 rather than 6:15 since I get up an hour earilier than I did when we had our own business. Ted had it set so the lights come up dim and grow brighter every three minutes until 5:30 Then they shut off at 7:30. I adjusted them so we'll see how they do. I also removed the daylightlight saving time that they were set to. Now that I know where it is, I can tweak it.

It was very cold this morning. It read 11 right next to the house and I know it was colder out in the yard away from the house. Danny went out with his coat on this morning. I saw Cami was in the kennel so I took Danny there but Chuck came out to get Danny and take him in the house. Cami had not yet done her business. He spent the day in front of a roaring fire in the fire place. What a lucky dog.

I spent the day in front of my space heater in my office. Everyday, I feel like I've "been rode hard and put away wet." A friend of mine used that expression one time. She comes up with some good ones. Ted and I were at a gathering with her and she made a sarcastic remark about some people being happy at a toad sticking. Ted and I rolled on the floor laughing. We never heard of a toad sticking and we often laughed when we thought of our friend saying that. I've heard of a toad stabbing in reference to a hard rain. Perhaps it is the same.

It's nearly time for Danny to be waking up from his after dinner nap and he will be wanting to go out. I would call this weather a toad freezing.

February used to be a happy month for my family. The 11th was my mother's birthday and my parent’s anniversary was the 14th, Valentine's Day. The 25th is my brother's birthday. Now there is much sadness in February. My mother died on Feb. 9th, two days before her birthday. My father died February 19th and Ted died February 22nd. It is a dark and gloomy month. It was the Sunday before Valentine's Day that my family went out to dinner to celebrate Moma's birthday and their anniversary.

When I was a little girl, we lived in a little suburban town right on the border of West Philadelphia. We would walk to Main St., get on the trolley car, and go to a Restaurant in West Philly called the Avenue. Main St. turned into Woodland Avenue when you crossed the border into Philadelphia. The Avenue was a well-known Restaurant for a long time.

Many times during this particular Sunday, it would snow. Being February, this was the norm. Sometimes we would get a good blizzard. When my parents were having their 50th Anniversary, we were apprehensive. It turned out to be about 60 degrees that day so we had a great day to celebrate.

I went to lunch with my church friends today. It was good to be with them but somehow, it's not the same as the good times I had with my family.

The computer guy from work followed me home yesterday and hooked up the business computer. It didn't come up at first. He did the same thing I did but then he checked the wires at the other end and it finally booted up.

I took Danny for a walk aroung 5pm tonight and someone set off some firecrackers when we were almost home. He bolted for the door then ran upstairs to hide. At 9pm when we usually have our last walk, he did not want to go out but headed toward the stairs. I put the leash on him and said walk but he was reluctant. He finally came and was alright once we got out the door and he heard no noise. I just heard a clap of thunder so I'll sign off.

Danny is sitting in my lap, trying to command my attention. He is about to start stomping on the key board. He is awaiting me to take him for his walk.

I got a call on the cell phone today from one of Ted's customers. He did not know of Ted's passing so it was a shock for him. He wanted Ted to work on a project. I also talked to a lady whose husband worked for my present employer and had recently passed away. He was younger than Ted. It was a depressing day.

I hope that tomorrow will be better. I hope the payroll goes well. There always seems to be some kind of a glitch.

I'd better get Danny out for his walk.
